The Slovak Republic is a recognised and highly respected actor in international politics. Since it came into existence in 1993, Slovakia has become a member of several prestigious international organisations. Membership of organisations such as the UN, EU, NATO, OECD or the Council of Europe has provided Slovakia with many opportunities to influence decisions which have shaped the course of political, economic and security relations in Europe as well as in the world.
